The Employee Relations Team (#TeamFoodie) is a group who enjoy all things food. Along with sharing recommendations for local restaurants, we also share insight and experience (both past and current) on employment law topics to ensure that we are always providing the best advice and guidance so that all employees enjoy a safe and fair working environment.. The Senior ER Consultant provides expert level consultation and guidance on disciplinary actions, grievances, performance management, conflict resolution, ADA, unemployment, County policies, and state and federal employment laws.

The Consultant’s day includes:
  • Proactively identify and analyze associated risks involved in specific employment situations and provide collaborative recommendations to identify risk/reward strategies
  • Conducting Title VII related investigations
  • Analyzing ER data and perform compliance risk assessments; and identify/recommend new and creative solutions


For positions with a remote work option, all Wake County Government remote workers must reside in one of the following states or districts: North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas or Virginia.

About Our Team

Through strategic partnership with County leadership, the Human Resources Department provides collaborative, innovative human resource programs and services that are customer-driven and results-oriented. This is a new position, expanding the capacity of the Employee Relations Team. Wake County Human Resources has consistently low turnover, confirming that we are a great place to work!

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field
  • Four years of experience in human resources
  • Equivalent education or experience is accepted


Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

We would love to have these, but they are not required:
  • Five or more years of professional experience in an employee relations role
  • Relevant certifications such as PHR or SPHR
  • Professional experience in local or state government a plus

  • Experience consulting with managers and employees on issues related to performance and employee relations
