What You'll Be Doing

Join #TeamWake as an Environmental Consultant!

The Wake County On-Site Water Protection is looking for a qualified self-motivated Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with excellent problem-solving skills to join our team of seasoned experts in the field of onsite wastewater permitting and management. This position will work with our Mobile Home Park program to complete inspections, issue permits and provide technical guidance. In addition, this position will support our Septic Operation and Maintenance program and will collaborate with other groups throughout the department.

Essential Functions include:
  • Provides project management and/or technical guidance for special/complex projects and serves as the subject matter expert in a technical area for a work group
  • Provides continuous quality improvement by analyzing business processes, recommending improvements, documenting procedures and evaluating effectiveness
  • Responds to citizen complaints in accordance with applicable procedures
  • Prepares documents for project compliance/enforcement and conducts enforcement action in accordance with approved procedures, rules and regulations
  • Consults with builders, developers and contractors concerning construction/permitting related issues as well as inspects complex installations and maintenance of projects/systems as needed

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
  • Three years of experience in environmental planning, inspections or engineering
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Three years of experience in environmental health or as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist
