Full-time position available with the Health Department, Behavioral Health & Injury Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional public health work in the development, coordination, and implementation of efforts to improve gun violence surveillance and data collection within the Aim4Peace violence prevention program.
  • Conducts data analyses, manages surveillance efforts of the program, as well as oversees the documentation of all employees who work for Aim4Peace, including familiarizing oneself with multiple databases.
  • Works closely with evaluators, academic institutions, and various local, state, and federal organizations to ensure that Aim4Peace's data collection methods are of the highest quality and align with the current practices utilized in the public health sphere.
  • Manages and fulfills all data requests and will be responsible for the organization's reporting internally and externally.
  • Receives, reviews and compiles health data from multiple sources.
  • Abstracts information into a standardized surveillance system, database, and/or case management system.
  • Examines data accuracy and completeness.
  • Works with leadership, staff, and evaluators to create and improve the organization's documentation practices.
  • Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the documentation process of staff as needed.
  • Provides consultation to managers and administrators to aid in the interpretation of data and the development of appropriate assessment and evaluation mechanisms for programs and services with an emphasis on data visualization.
  • Prepares and arranges infographics and tables and charts for compilation into manuals, handbooks, and reports.
  • Prepares questionnaires and other forms for use in gathering and reporting data.
  • Geocodes data to prepare reports and track reach.
  • Uses public health and epidemiological methods to calculate and monitor the incidence and prevalence of gun-violence locally.
  • Adheres to internal and external reporting deadlines.
  • Facilitates in-house team meetings weekly to evaluate documentation and gaps in the data.
  • Reviews documentation for completeness on a consistent basis.
  • Serves as the liaison and communication point between our organization and our evaluators, new CDC Gun Violence Research Center at the University of Kansas.
  • Collaborates with medical centers, other violence prevention programs, and stakeholders to share data.



Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 2 years of health related work experience, including 1 years at a level comparable to a Public Health Specialist; OR an accredited Master's degree and 1 year of health related work experience at a level comparable to a Public Health Specialist; OR an accredited Master's degree in Public Health; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
