GENERAL DESCRIPTION PLEASE NOTE: The salary listed on this posting will receive a 5% legislative appropriated increase effective 9/1/2024. NOTE: Internal Posting. Open to TPWD Law Enforcement only. Under the direction of the Regional Major, this position performs wildlife, conservation, and natural resources enforcement work, including, supervising conservation and other law enforcement work in an assigned District. Supervises staff, programs and District Office administration. Conducts analysis and reporting of data related to enforcement programs and activities. Exercises discretion and independent judgment, with authority to make independent choices in applying regulations, policies and operational procedures. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree;
Graduation from the Texas Game Warden Training Academy.
Experience: Eight years experience as a Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden.
Licensure: Must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license;
Must possess a current license as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Commissioned as a Texas Game Warden by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS Education: One additional year of the required experience as a Texas Game Warden may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of statutes, proclamations, regulations and policies related to the enforcement of all provisions of the Texas Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, and all regulatory acts adopted under the authority of the Parks and Wildlife Code regarding fisheries resources, game animal resources, game bird resources, non-game resources, furbearing resources and provisions of the Texas Water Safety Act;

Skill in identifying staff training needs and researching, developing, coordinating and delivering presentations and/or training material to meet identified needs;

Ability to work and interact effectively as a member of the agency, division and regional management teams to support and accomplish establish goals and objectives;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday:
Required to work overtime as necessary;
Required to travel 20% with possible overnight stays;
Required to reside within the Region and within a radius of up to 50 air miles from the Law Enforcement Office (LEO). If an LEO is not located within the District, the Captain will reside within the District at a location approved by the Major.
Required to operate a State vehicle;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
