Wake County Public Libraries is looking for part-time
Library Assistants for several library locations!

What do Library Assistants do?
  • Work on a public service desk to answer questions, check books out, and issue library cards
  • Help patrons with informational and reading needs
  • Assist Library Manager with library operational duties
  • Assist Librarians with program set-up and/or program delivery
  • Assist with making creative book displays

Community Libraries

Middle Creek Community Library*

Schedule:
Daytime, Evening, and Saturday/Sunday shifts are required
Monday, Tuesday, and Friday daytime
Wednesday evening
Every third weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

Wake Forest Community Library*
400 E. Holding Ave.
Wake Forest, NC 27587
Schedule:
Monday 12-9
Tuesday off
Wednesday 12-4
Thursday 12-4
Friday 2-6
Saturday and Sunday every other weekend (Saturdays 2-6, Sunday 12-4 or 1-5)

Regional Libraries

Cary Regional Library*

Schedule:
Daytime, Evening, and Saturday/Sunday shifts are required
Tuesday daytime
Monday and Thursday evenings
Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

Northeast Regional Library*

Schedule:
Monday - 9-2
Wednesday - 4:15-9:15
Thursday - 4:15-9:15
Saturday and Sunday every other weekend (Saturdays 9-2, Sunday 12:15-5:15)

*Please note that Library Assistants hired into these positions must have a strong interest and willingness to learn children's programming
*Part-time Library Assistants generally work a combination of morning, afternoon, and evening hours with a regular Saturday and Sunday rotation (may vary by location)

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree
  • No specific experience required
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Public Library experience working on a service desk
  • Customer Service or Bookstore experience
  • Experience working directly with children, for some locations
  • For some locations, Spanish-language skills desired

Work Schedule: 20 hrs. per week, combo days, evenings, and regular weekend rotation

Hiring Range: 22.13 - 28.73
