Situated in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Pierce County is a vibrant region that’s home to comfortable weather, affordable living options, ample water sports and outdoor recreation opportunities, and a thriving arts scene. Twenty-three cities and towns are located within Pierce County which is also known for its world-class healthcare and outstanding school districts. The Port of Tacoma (Port) is among the largest deepwater container ports in North America. More than 70% of its international cargo emanates from or is delivered to the central and eastern parts of the U.S. The Port also handles about 80% of the marine cargo between Alaska and the lower 48 states.

As one of the region's economic engines, the Port plays a vital role in creating and sustaining sound economic development for Pierce County and Washington state. A dynamic and exciting place to work, the Port is committed to employee development, providing a rewarding work environment, and creating opportunities for growth. The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of human resources (HR) programs that support the Port and the Northwest Seaport Alliance’s (NWSA) vision, mission and goals. This position provides proactive advice and counsel to the Executive Team for each organization in developing employee strategies that align with and drive the Port and NWSA’s business.
