Job Summary Under the supervision, performs technical and administrative work in the control and disposition of collected digital media evidence for the Bryan Police Department, including body-worn cameras, in-car video systems, interview room audio/visual recordings, and other digital devices. This is a non-sworn position.
Essential Job Functions - Responsible for the processing, storage, maintenance, security, and inventory of all digital media within the department’s chain of custody.
- Ensures all body worn camera recording footage and other digital media is properly cataloged/tagged and can be easily accessed and cross-referenced with case files.
- Performs regular audits to ensure digital media was properly cataloged.
- Responds to requests from department personnel, courts, outside law enforcement agencies, and/or the general public regarding digital evidence.
- Reviews and redacts sensitive information prior to providing copies/duplicates of digital evidence in compliance with agency policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and public records laws.
- Researches and reviews digital evidence to ensure compliance with procedures and guidelines.
- Assists with quality assurance of body worn camera audit functions.
- Resolves technical issues regarding digital media and related software/hardware as needed.
- Prepares reports and correspondence as required.
- Assists with digital evidence training to agency personnel.
- Provides testimony in court as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- High School Diploma/ GED plus at least five (5) years of experience in computerized digital processing, video processing, public safety system management, and/or police investigative or forensic experience; OR an Associate’s degree plus three (3) years of experience as previously listed; OR a Bachelor’s degree plus at least one (1) year of experience as previously listed.
Preferred:
- Training and/or significant college-level coursework in computer/digital forensics, digital media production, or an IT related field.
- Experience in a related field with a municipal police or sheriff’s department.
- Experience working with digital and/or video evidence software.
- Experience with public records requests related to criminal justice records.
- Experience with public safety software systems.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements - Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
- Must not have any criminal conviction above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
- Must clear the selection process which includes completion of a Personal History Statement ( PHS ) Form and passing an interview, background investigation, and a drug/alcohol screening.
