What You'll Be Doing

Are you a library professional looking for part-time hours and are passionate about serving the children in your community?

WCPL is hiring a part-time (20 hours per week) Youth Services Librarian for the Zebulon Community Library to focus on the Young Child. You will work in the library with a team of Librarians and Library Assistants dedicated to offering quality service and dynamic programming to the community. Beyond developing and delivering storytimes, Librarians provide reference, readers' advisory and circulation assistance. Librarians are offered the opportunity to collaborate with managers and peers; and participate in system initiatives, though on a more limited basis due to the part-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, promote and present multiple weekly programs for children and families
• Work directly with the public on a service desk providing circulation assistance, reference help and readers' advisory
• Take a lead with Library Assistants assigned to assist in the delivery of programs
• Serve as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Library Manager

Work Schedule:

Monday 8:30-1:30
Tuesday 8:30-1:30
Wednesday 8:30-1:30
Thursday 4:00-9:00
Every 3rd Weekend
Saturday 8:00-5:00
Sunday 12:00-5:00

The Zebulon Community Library is located in fast-growing eastern Wake County just off Highway 64 at Highway 96 at 1000 Dogwood Dr., Zebulon. It is co-located on a campus with the Eastern Regional Center, a multi-service county facility.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
  • No specific experience required
  • Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Coursework in youth services
  • One year of professional public library experience working with children
  • Spanish language skills

Hiring Range: 23.57 - 30.28

Market Range: 23.57 - 37.00
