SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

This position will provide leadership to the Parks and Recreation Department on all fundraising initiatives including grants, sponsorships, capital campaigns, and inter-government funding opportunities in alignment with our Parks and Recreation and Open Space Plan. The Fund Development Program Manager will lead the organizations efforts to cultivate relationships with new and existing funders and attract and leverage the financial resources necessary to enhance funding models, identify new sources of funding and develop sustainable grant programs for the Parks and Recreation Department.

The incumbent serves as a representative of the City, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with staff and with the public.

Distinguishing Characteristics: The Fund Development Program Manager has superior organizational skills and great leadership qualities. This position must have transcendent interpersonal skills that can effectively represent the mission, vision, and objectives of the Parks and Recreation Department and integrate the funders priorities therein. This position will be instrumental in reinforcing and developing relationships and must generate $300,000 of funding annually in support of the Parks and Recreation Department.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Leverage relationships with the community and partners to engage opportunities, connecting people and programs the Parks and Recreation department provides through sponsorship, grants, individual giving, and inter-governmental funding opportunities.Create and lead development of materials and media to highlight outcomes to funder(s) sharing how the funds made an impact in the community through the City of Reno Parks and Recreation department and their partners. Lead communication efforts with internal and external media for departmental story telling and donor/sponsor recognition.Identify, build, and maintain relationships with corporate and individual donors through participation in outside community groups, organizations, and boards.Represent the City and department at various social, networking, and promotional events and invite current and potential donors to observe department programs, services and events. Develop and execute a strategy for fund development opportunities that align with and support goals, objectives and priorities of the Parks and Recreation Department. Plan, direct, coordinate the work plan of staff responsible for implementing approved projects under various funding sources.Manage administrative and fiscal aspects of awarded projects/grants, which requires knowledge of funding agencies, institutional and departmental requirements, ability to interpret funding requirements and competency.Ensure compliance with conditions of projects/grants, provide central coordination for fund development activities, including researching and maintaining current information on available federal, state, local and private funding sources and their respective compliance requirements; conceptualize linkages between available funding sources and City operations; and regularly communicate this information to operating departments.Perform related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, industrial relations, marketing, communications, or a related field.

Experience:

5 years of experience in community engagement, marketing, communication, sponsorship, fund development, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have local/regional knowledge of funding sources.
