JOBSUMMARY

The Millwright Mechanic - Treatment is responsible for a variety of complex level maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. This position serves as a resource to other mechanics and crafts for resolutions to diverse and complex mechanical problems.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Organizes, plans, and executes projects to maximize efficiency.
  • Creates and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves variable and highly complex non-routine water or wastewater facility machinery, piping and equipment problems.
  • Develops and submits technical specifications for repair parts and equipment.
  • Tracks and records information required in work order documents.
  • Creates reports with and enters data into the computerized maintenance management system and uses Microsoft Office.
  • Develops and conducts hands-on training classes as needed for various procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment.
  • Performs advanced level diagnostic tests to resolve routine to complex problems.
  • Repairs plant machinery and equipment, using hoists, jacks, welding equipment, ladders, confined space equipment, PPE, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and other tools.
  • Dismantles, constructs and assembles various components of industrial facilities, machinery or equipment.
  • Participates in planning efforts such as safety committees, work planning groups, and special project teams.
  • Coordinates with other organizational groups, crafts, and operational staff.
  • Trains and mentors other employees.
  • Leads, evaluates, and inspects the work of other mechanical teams.
  • Furnishes mechanical recommendation when ordering new parts, machinery and equipment.
  • Promotes and practices a safe working environment.
  • Reads, interprets and explains contents of O & M manuals, as-built drawings, block maps, schematics, and construction plans.
  • Performs work in accordance with TCEQ, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, powered vertical lifting equipment, utility truck, crane, combination unit, water tanker, or other heavy equipment.
  • Evaluates construction drawings and makes recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

DECISIONMAKING
  • Works under limited supervision.
  • May be required to act as a team leader, or on behalf of the supervisor on administrative or management issues.
  • Applies mastery of skills and principles of mechanical maintenance and industrial safety.

MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Six years’ experience performing repairs, maintenance and installation of pumps, chlorination systems and other industrial equipment.
  • Training on Confined space, HAZMAT Awareness, Lock Out Tag Out, Supervising for Safety, Fit Testing, Electrical Safety, and other certifications as required.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS
  • Class "B" Wastewater Treatment Operator License.

JOB DIMENSIONS
  • Skill and mastery of materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in mechanical maintenance or repair of industrial facilities.
  • Skill in applying advanced math and measurement principles.
  • Skill in applying advanced computer skills and ability in the use of the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Skill in demonstrating advanced knowledge of other maintenance crafts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, contractors, governmental agencies and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

PHYSICALDEMANDSANDWORKINGCONDITIONS

Physical Requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and pushing/pulling a maximum force of 105 pounds. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling and working in cramped and strained positions for extended periods of time to perform job scope. Subject to climbing up to 200 feet in height.

Working conditions are primarily outside with frequent exposure to inclement weather; wastewater; mechanical, electrical, chemical and confined space hazards; offensive fumes; excessive noise; heavy traffic; deep excavations; and animals, snakes and poisonous insects. May be required to comply with requirements as specified in applicable regulations for personal protective equipment, including clearance for use of respiratory protection and other associated protective equipment. Performs confined space entries in hazardous environments. Operates company vehicle on a daily basis.

May be required to work hours other than regular daytime schedules such as shift work, nights, weekends and holidays.
