Tacoma Power's Transmission & Distribution (T&D) division is seeking an Engineering Project Manager, Senior to join their team. This position performs advanced level project management duties to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close out electric utility transmission, distribution, and substation projects. These include complex projects with long-term schedules and multi-million dollar budgets consisting of cross-functional matrixed teams with six or more groups of engineering, construction, other technical/professional staff, and/or consultants and contractors.

The successful candidate will have a passion for project management with the ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with teams across the organization. They are motivated to foster a culture of project management excellence in T&D by coaching other staff with their expertise, developing tools and templates, and implementing best practices.

Responsibilities Includes:
  • Initiate projects by developing business cases for capital projects and Agreements for externally driven projects.
  • Produce scope definition, alternatives analysis, cost estimates, and schedules as part of initiating projects.
  • Define project objectives and criteria through collaboration with stakeholders, customers, and sponsors.
  • Build cross-functional project teams by working with sponsors and functional managers to commit resources.
  • Lead project teams to the successful completion of project objectives, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Manage stakeholders, customers, sponsors, and functional managers by understanding and establishing their expectations and delivering on commitments.
  • Execute project management best practices by developing charters, project management plans, baselines (scope, schedule, budget), risk registers, lessons learned, closing, etc.
  • Communicate with the project teams, customers, stakeholders, sponsors, and executive leaders through meetings, reports, dashboards, and presentations.
  • Identify project risks and obstacles and proactively work with project teams to mitigate and escalate issues.
  • Develop and use resource allocation plans to support coordination of team member activities and deliverables with other projects, operations, and construction and maintenance personnel and activities.
  • Monitor and control project performance with baselines of scope, schedule, budget and take corrective action as necessary to meet project objectives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Project Management by mentoring other engineers and project managers.
  • Support tasks and initiatives related to the continuous improvement of the Project Management best practices including developing tools and templates and assisting with training.


Qualifications

Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in civil or electrical engineering, construction management, project management or directly related field.

Minimum Experience*
5 years of progressively responsible professional capital construction project management experience.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Washington State Driver's License
Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or Professional Engineering License (PE) desired.

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
