There are no Civil Service minimum qualifications. Qualifications for each seasonal position are based on operating needs and vary based on the assigned work location and job title.
Duties Description
Serving as the first point-of-contact for Arboretum visitors at the Visitor Center, the Park and Recreation Aide 2's duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Greeting visitors and staff and answering incoming phone calls in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Providing information about special events, tours, and educational programs offered at the Arboretum.
• Responding to visitor inquiries by offering information, direction, and guidance (NYS Parks, Arboretum, and Visitor Center).
• Encouraging visitors to explore the interactive educational exhibits and offering assistance & explanation when needed.
• Processing and issuing Arboretum vehicle use fees and sales of Empire Passes, and helping visitors understand the vehicle use fees in effect (Golden Access Program, etc.)
• Assisting with Visitor Center Gift Shop sales by handling customer transactions and restocking inventory.
• Referring visitors to Arboretum Office for assistance/inquiries regarding permit applications (photography & weddings), refunds, event scheduling, etc.
• Cleaning and maintaining facilities, equipment, and exhibits.
• Completing end-of-day revenue and sales reporting.
• Reporting any issues needing immediate attention to Park Administrative Staff.
• Other related duties as needed.
Additional Comments
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Experience with Microsoft Word
• Excellent customer service skills
