There are no Civil Service minimum qualifications. Qualifications for each seasonal position are based on operating needs and vary based on the assigned work location and job title.
Duties Description
Planting Fields is a spectacular 409-acre public garden located on the north shore of Long Island. The arboretum features one of the most comprehensive exotic and native plant collections in the Northeast.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Caring for the Orchid collection.
• Pruning, repotting, watering, and fertilizing.
• Inventory and record keeping of collection.
• Assisting the public with information about Orchid collection.
•Pest identification and control.
• Ability to lift and carry objects of various sizes and weight.
• Ability to use a ladder.
• Helping with seasonal display changes and other areas of the greenhouse as needed.
Additional Comments
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Horticulture experience is required.
• Greenhouse and orchid knowledge preferred.
• Organization skills.
• Detail oriented and goal focused.
• Ability to work independently and in small work groups.
• Must be able to work in varying degrees of temperature.
Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
