The Department of Social Services (DSS), Director's Office (DO) is looking for a Senior Research/Data Analyst to join our team in the Research and Data Analysis Unit, located in Cole County.

What you’ll do:

    • Supervise a team of Research/Data Analysts, including reviewing their work.
    • Collaborate with the Research Manager and another Senior Research/Data Analyst to assign and distribute work throughout the entire Research and Data Analysis Unit and find ways to streamline processes and workflows.
    • Develop procedures and methodology to be used in researching, programming, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting data; determine sources for obtaining data; correct, adjust, and interpret data. Prepare monthly, annual, and/or other periodic work reports.
    • Prepare correspondence to providers and users of information; visit public and private agencies to coordinate, manage, and improve the quality of data products.
    • Plan, design, and execute special studies and research projects; develop new methods and procedures.
    • Consult with program staff and various levels of administration in planning and implementing research and evaluation projects.
    • Perform highly specialized and complex analytical and research studies; prepare detailed reports using tables, charts, and narratives.
    • Assist in formulating administrative and research policies and correlating program policies and practices with federal and state requirements.
    • Coordinate activities involving electronic data processing functions and provides functional supervision as needed.
    • Program statistical applications using micro and mainframe computer statistical software packages; provide training for staff in the use of statistical software packages.
    • Exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of responsibilities; receive general administrative direction; work is reviewed for conformance to broad program objectives and policies.
    • Perform other related work as assigned.


All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience and/or appropriate certification. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

Preferred Qualifications: Prior supervisory/management experience is preferred.A significant portion of the job responsibilities involves the writing, coding, testing, maintaining, and documenting of computer programs to identify, join, and extract data. Experience working with SAS, SQL, or similar programming language is preferred but not required. DSS program policy and procedure background, and experience working closely with ITSD on DSS data systems such as analyzing/requesting/testing system changes, is also preferred. DSS experience is preferred, but not required.
