Job Summary

$21.95 - 27.99

Performs specialized and technical work in the examination, identification, comparison, evaluation, and verification of latent and inked prints. Provides advice on fingerprint matters to police personnel and the State Attorney's Office. Work includes the responsibility for the maintenance and identification of criminal evidentiary records and latent print evidence. An employee assigned to this class is provided technical supervision from the Senior Latent Print Examiner(s), who reviews work for completeness, technical quality, and adherence to departmental standards. Work is performed under the supervision of the Crime Center and Forensics Supervisor and Manager. Performance is reviewed through discussion, results obtained, and reports submitted.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree or equivalent semester/quarter hours and six (6) months of latent print analysis and comparison-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must meet minimum requirements of the Latent Print Examiner position within one (1) year of hire date. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. Technical training endorsed by the International Association for Identification in the classification, filing, and searching of fingerprints desired.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
