Description INTERN - WATER AND SEWER SYSTEMS DIVISION PART-TIME INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Paid intern positions are available within the Environmental Services Department. The positions are an excellent part-time opportunity for an individual with GIS skills wishing to obtain work experience in the Environmental Studies field. Current student enrollment is not required. Enrichment Opportunities Learn and work with the City's GIS and Office 365 suite of applications. Learn concepts of engineering problem solving, data analysis, data management, and GIS database design and development. Hours : the selected candidate will work under supervision on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The specific days and hours will be decided by the hiring manager in consultation with the selected candidate. Essential Job Functions (May include, but are not limited to, the following): Organize and digitize information from existing documentation to build a digital Operations & Maintenance (O&M) record repository. Review available O&M records and collaborate with users, supervisor, and administrators to define database features and functionality. Assist users and supervisor with designing and utilizing GIS database, including using GIS model builder to automate data import/export. Assist and train users to use the GIS database. About the Opportunity THE POSITION The Deputy Sheriff Intern classification will be used to provide a formal training program for individuals who are 18 through 24 years of age with the goal of providing incumbents the opportunity to experience law enforcement and determine their career goals. Incumbents will be provided with the skills and competencies necessary to meet the demands of becoming a public safety officer while preparing them for a full-time law enforcement career. Candidates will attend the POST academy and/or CORE academy as their college schedule permits. Stanislaus County will bear the cost of the POST academy and CORE academy. Deputy Sheriff Interns may attend the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified Regular Basic Course (RBC). Over the course of the approximately 740 hour RBC, incumbents will receive intensive academic instruction in law enforcement procedures combined with rigorous physical fitness training. Successful completion of the POST Regular Basic Course requires full-time attendance for approximately four months in addition to off duty study time. Deputy Sheriff Interns may attend the CORE academy at the Stanislaus County Regional Training Center. Successful completion of the CORE academy requires full-time attendance for approximately six weeks. The first year incumbent may be assigned to work in the Adult Detention facilities under the direct supervision of a Facility Training Officer (FTO). About the Opportunity THE POSITION The Deputy Sheriff Intern classification will be used to provide a formal training program for individuals who are 18 through 24 years of age with the goal of providing incumbents the opportunity to experience law enforcement and determine their career goals.
