Are you a customer focused, data-driven problem-solver with the ability to coordinate and collaborate with internal and external agencies to ensure safe, reliable water for our community? Tacoma Water is seeking a talented Water Operations Analyst to join our team!

In this essential role, you'll be a key player in efficient work order planning for our Water Maintenance and Construction crews. You'll be responsible for meticulously planning the construction, maintenance, corrective work, repairs, and replacements for Tacoma's water distribution system and supporting infrastructure.

You'll also be a key player in ensuring operational excellence. By auditing planned work and performance metrics, you'll identify areas for improvement and keep our water system running smoothly. Your keen analytical skills will be put to the test as you interpret data, recommend system enhancements, and develop action plans for leadership.

As a subject matter expert in planning and execution processes, you'll be a valuable resource for our team. You'll also contribute to the creation of biennial maintenance and capital budgets, providing vital input for franchise agreement forecasts.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Planning
    • Create work plans for Tacoma Water Distribution Operations and Maintenance groups that follow best practices for the installation, repair, or replacement of assets relating to the operation of our distribution system
    • Develop and/or consolidate all needed information to support constraint free execution of work order packages, a work order package can include things such as written scope, drawings & maps, trenching/shoring plans, estimating crew hours, materials, and equipment, and shutdown plans, maps, and notifications
    • Review completed work order projects to ensure documentation accurately reflects the work performed
Franchise Required Work
  • Identify equipment/appurtenances requiring renewal or relocation due to conflicts with the public right of way by working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Review external plans and provide detailed information on impacts to Tacoma Water assets
  • Develop relationships with external stakeholders to ensure sufficient timing to complete necessary work
Backlog Maintenance
  • Assist in maintaining a backlog of 2-4 weeks of planned ready to schedule work
  • Coordinate activities with Water Engineering, supervisors, employees, private contractors, and other agencies to determine preliminary project timing
Procurement
  • Identify materials, goods, and/or services needed to purchase to facilitate the repair, maintenance, and construction of the water system
  • Coordinate with the warehouse for kit preparation and acquisitions of stock and non-stock materials
Please note, this position is expected to work in person full time at Tacoma Public Utilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in construction management, business or public administration or directly related field.

Minimum Experience*
2 years of professional maintenance and asset management experience.

Desired Qualifications
Experience using SAP or similar Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) tool

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Valid Washington State Driver's License

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
