Job Description

The Missouri State Public Defender is dedicated to providing legal representation to individuals who cannot afford an attorney in criminal cases. Our mission is to ensure fair and just legal proceedings for all citizens. We are looking for a motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Administrative Assistant. This role is essential in supporting efficient office operations and providing crucial clerical assistance to our Strike Force staff.

Administrative Coordination and Support:

  • Serve as office manager, overseeing administrative and clerical tasks.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to management and office staff.
  • Assist in coordination and scheduling logistics of court reporters and other experts.
  • Act as a liaison with the state office, local courts, other departments and outside agencies.
  • Obtain various records including work, school and health records of clients


Document Preparation and Management:

  • Prepare letters, memos, reports, and other documents using various software.
  • Maintain filing systems for records.
  • Financial and Resource Management:
  • Process invoices and track expenditures.
  • Order supplies and ensure the proper functioning of office equipment.
  • Handle travel arrangements for staff


Project Management and Special Assignments:

  • Work independently and within a team on special projects assigned by management.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education may be substituted for minimum experience requirements.
  • One year of professional administrative or office management experience, demonstrated by supervision of staff or highly responsible administrative duties; Or, five years progressively responsible clerical/office experience required.
  • Working knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, establish and maintain records, prepare spreadsheets and reports, and make routine decisions in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software.
