This is a professional position providing statewide outreach services to Local and State Education Agencies (LEAs and SEAs), early intervention agencies, and families about the educational needs of children (birth to 21 years) with dual sensory loss with or without additional disabilities. Responsibilities involve the identification and referral for assistance and services to support the achievement of educational and employment outcomes. The DeafBlind Project Coordinator will also plan and offer training and technical assistance to families, educators and educational agencies. The job requires some travel to local school programs, state agencies and national conferences.

What you'll do:

  • Coordinate and provide, as needed, onsite consultation and other activities to families, educators and students that reflect research based effective practices in supporting individuals with dual sensory loss/deafblindness/multiple disabilities in school and in the community.
  • Assist Project Director in assuring that the Project fulfills the requirements of the Missouri Deaf-Blind Technical Assistance Project (Project) grant negotiated with the United States Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to maintain funding.
  • Develop and disseminate high quality products and resources that are disability accessible.
  • Participate in collaborative relationships with state and national agencies such as Helen Keller National Center, the National Center on Deafblindness, and Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, Missouri Commission for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Research, increase and maintain knowledge of current programs designed to assist individuals with deafblindness.
  • Coordinate and provide workshops, presentations and trainings for families and educational teams on individuals with deafblindness.
  • Maintain a system of data collection to track and report activities and provide information for annual grant reports.
  • Maintain the mandated Federal Census of children (birth-21 years)
  • Attend state, regional and local meetings at the direction of the Superintendent.


All you'll need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification as Teacher in the areas of special education, multiple disabilities, blindness, deafness or related fields.
  • Experience working with children and youth who have multiple disabilities and/or sensory disabilities
