Job Description

TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

PLEASE NOTE: The salary listed on this posting will receive a 5% legislative appropriated increase effective 9/1/2024.

Under the direct supervision of the Human Resources (HR) Benefits and Personnel Services Manager, this position performs routine to moderately complex (journey level) human resources administrative and technical assistance work within a human resources management department including extensive customer service to agency staff and the general public. The HR Assistant is the first point of contact to HR and is responsible for the HR front reception desk and administration duties, including greeting, welcoming, and directing visitors appropriately. Assists with general questions and resolves routine issues related to the human resources management program. Responsible for answering, screening, and forwarding incoming phone calls and emails, processing mail, verifying employment, processing background checks, data entry, file and records management, and ensuring coverage of the reception desk. Works closely with all members of the Human Resources Division providing various administrative support involving agency and HR programs. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.



Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

Six months of performing administrative support duties or customer service experience.

Licensure:

Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university in Human Resources Management or Business Administration.

Experience:

One year experience as an HR receptionist or front desk clerk;

Experience in a Human Resources role in areas, such as Employment, Recruitment, or Benefits;

Experience with Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), or Employees Retirement System (ERS) Online.

Preferred:

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of general office management, administrative, and clerical procedures;

Knowledge of record keeping, filing and reporting procedures;

Knowledge of telephone procedures and etiquette;

Knowledge of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) human resources related policies and procedures;

Knowledge of Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS);

Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information;

Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;

Required to work overtime, as necessary;

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.;

May be required to travel 5%, with possible overnight stays;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
