GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the direction of the Lead Utility Plant Operator, this position performs complex (journey-level) construction work and is responsible for performing all phases of maintenance and repairs to facilities, buildings, and infrastructure to include carpentry, electrical and plumbing, grounds, and equipment. Serves as a Back-Up Utility Plant Operator (UPO) and assists in the operation, maintenance, and repairs to Palo Duro Canyon State Park's surface water treatment plant and wastewater systems. Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations and completion of required reports and laboratory testing as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Performs preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of facilities, grounds, and equipment. Operates all types of equipment including hand tools, electrical tools, power tools, power mowers, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline or diesel-powered equipment. Provides visitor services including interpretation of park's natural and cultural resources and the enforcement of park rules and regulations. Prepares reports, purchases, camper registration, and collection of fees. Performs fleet and equipment repairs and maintenance and is responsible for maintaining associated logs. Assists in organizing, training, and coordinating the work of hourly employees and volunteers. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.



Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience :

Three years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure :

Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license at the time of hire;

Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a Class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ);

Must possess or be able to obtain, within three years of employment, a Class "C" Water and Wastewater license issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

Experience :

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

Required to work overtime as necessary;

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations;

Required to use appropriate safety procedures and equipment;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
