Description

Vacancy is in the Hartford Police Department. Under general supervision in the Police Department, performs and tracks the requisition, issue and control of supplies, uniforms, equipment and automotive parts. Transmits and receives messages by telephone and email, and maintains a perpetual inventory system. Prepares requisitions for a variety of materials and tools. Acts as lead worker in receiving, storing and issuing equipment and material. Checks incoming orders against items as listed on requisitions or invoices for quantity and conditions. Keeps records of all department pricing agreements and expenditures from purchasing accounts. Drafts receiving reports and emergency requisitions. Receives calls from employees concerning requests and complaints. Conducts periodic inventories or keeps a perpetual inventory of stock and supplies on hand. Watches stock supply levels and orders items that are depleted or low in quantity. Occasionally repairs tools, changes automotive batteries, tires, bulbs, wiper blades and installed equipment. Ensures the maintenance of orderly stock records, supply room cleanliness and a simple supply catalogue system. Operates a motor vehicle, shuttles vehicles to and from various locations, operates an interdepartmental radio, telephone and email, and locates workers and relays messages. Performs considerable telephone contact by communicating with vendors, budget personnel and supervisors. This is a 1716 union position and the hours of work are 40 per week.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application. All parts of the examination will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designed to measure:

Knowledge of:
  • Storekeeping methods and procedures.
  • A wide variety of materials, supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Modern office practices and procedures as they apply to storekeeping and inventory activities.

Ability to:
  • Train new employees.
  • Keep stock records, prepare reports and perform simple arithmetic computations.
  • Make assignments and act as lead worker.
  • Perform manual labor necessary in lifting stock and keeping the stock room in order.
  • Express oneself concisely, both orally and in writing.


Qualifications

Open to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:

Three (3) years of experience in stock keeping work or automotive parts inventory, including some lead experience.

Licenses; Certifications; Special Requirements:

Possess and Maintain a valid driver's license.
