Main Purpose/Focus of the Position : The Research/Data Analyst is a vital member of the P20W Research Team. P20W data systems securely and privately connect statewide information from early childhood (Preschool) through K-12 education, postsecondary education (“Grade 20”), the Workforce, social and human services, enabling cross-sector data insights to help users evaluate policies and programs, spot trends, and figure out what works in supporting successful transitions for Missourians along their education and workforce journeys.

The Research/Data Analyst will analyze data in the P20W data warehouse to create new research and information products revealing new insights leveraging cross-sector longitudinal data. The position will also work with data stewards (primarily research analysts) with partner agencies to produce new research and reporting and understand their data and its connections to other partners’ data in the P20W warehouse.

The Research/Data Analyst will also assist with managing related applications, and assist in responding to approved research requests for data extracts. The successful candidate must be motivated and a problem solver who has the ability to work independently or in a team environment. They must also have a desire to continually develop new skills through self-study, online and in-class training courses or attendance at seminars/conferences.

  • Perform data management and advanced queries of internal and external data sources.
  • Be comfortable using large data sets and software such as SAS, R, SQL, and Tableau.
  • Prepare results of analysis in a variety of forms, including data visualizations, tables, charts, and written and verbal reports and presentations.
  • Assist in making recommendations for using data to solve new and complex problems and demonstrate effectiveness and efficiency of programs and major initiatives.
  • Perform program and policy evaluation in consultation with other DHEWD offices and staff.
  • Assist with organizing and prioritizing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Support as a liaison to regional and national organizations, state agencies, non-profits and other interested P20W stakeholders.
  • Travel, attend occasional convenings and conferences, and present on DHEWD initiatives and education data.
  • Assist with data validation and cleaning; work with partner data stewards and ITSD staff to take corrective action when necessary.
  • Document processes and data sources for continuity in reporting and knowledge share with other team members.
  • Maintain a knowledge of major policy issues across P20W sectors, both nationally and statewide.
  • Assist with creating data extracts for approved research projects.
  • Assist with managing, maintaining and enhancing applications connecting to and using P20W data warehouse.
  • Seek opportunities to improve processes and systems related to P20W data and reporting.
  • Effectively interpret and communicate complex datasets to various stakeholders to assist in their data needs and reporting requirements.
  • Work with minimal direction, respond efficiently to routine data requests and ongoing reports, and perform other related work as assigned.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, be organized, self-motivated, have the ability to work on a team or independently as required, and the desire to continually develop new skills and improve existing skills.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.


  • Beneficial education and/or work-related experience including technical or professional experience in economics, statistics, mathematics, information or computer science and technology, engineering, data science and analytics, or closely related areas, including military service.
