Job Announcement

The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Recreation Coordinator - Fitness. The position is scheduled to work Tuesday-Saturday, Tuesday-Friday 11:45 a.m.-8:15 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m.-6p.m.

Who we are looking for
Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone with at least two (2) years of working experience in fitness recreation and supervisory and leadership skills to manage a large team of contract and city employees. Our ideal team member will have strong communication skills to deliver expectations and directives in a positive manner. The business acumen to retain and apply information to support operations processes, policies, and procedures.

Minimum qualifications
• An Associate's Degree in Recreation, Special Education, or related field; and
• 2 years of experience in recreation including (2) years of supervisory experience; and
• A First Aid/CPR/AED Certification; and
• A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications
• Bachelor's degree with major course work in exercise science, recreation, physical education, or a related field;
• Two (2) years' experience in group fitness, personal training, weight training, active adult programming, wellness, general nutritional, and retention programming;
• Two (2) years supervision experience of part-time employee, fitness instructors, and personal trainers;
• Instructional background in all areas of wellness, fitness, and personal training.
• Certification(s) from an accredited fitness agency such as American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certification, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Certification, National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and/or NCCA Personal Trainer certification;
• Computer proficient in Microsoft 365;
• Proficient in recreation registration software.

This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
