Job Description

Job Location: This position will be located at 149 Park Central Square, Suite 116, Springfield, MO 65806.

  • Inspect child care facilities to ensure laws and regulations are met.
  • Interpret state laws and regulations.
  • Explain state laws and regulations to child care providers and stakeholders.
  • Process applications for issuance of child care licenses.
  • Provide technical assistance to child care providers, including informational meetings as needed.
  • Provide consultation on problems related to child development, behavior, and health services.
  • Prepare required reports as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and workgroups as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Able to set and follow priorities, successfully adjust to rapidly changing situations, and concurrently manage multiple tasks.
  • Abe to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department staff, other state and local agencies, and the public.
  • Have an understanding of child development.
  • Able to navigate a computer and learn data systems.
  • Able to manage a caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in elementary or early education, sociology, psychology, child development, social work, or a closely related field, or other related area.


OR

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 6 earned credit hours in elementary or early education, sociology, psychology, child development, social work, or a closely related field, or other related area with two or more years of professional or technical experience in elementary or early childhood education, social services for children, or experience in the provision of child care in a licensed family or group child care home, or a licensed or license exempt child care center.


OR

  • Four or more years of professional or technical experience in child care licensing, elementary or early childhood education, social services for children, or experience in the provision of child care in a licensed family or group child care home, or a licensed or license exempt child care center and possession of a high school diploma or high school equivalency.
