ABOUT THE POSITION

The Collection System Maintenance Worker participates in all CVSan activities required to inspect, maintain, and repair collection system facilities and equipment including main sewer lines, laterals, pumping stations, and mobile equipment. The work involves preventive and corrective maintenance program implementation and assistance in ensuring that CVSan meets all regulatory agency requirements. Assignments may vary with the skill and training of the incumbent; however, all employees are cross trained in all assignments and the use of all equipment.

ABOUT THE CASTRO VALLEY SANITARY DISTRICT
The Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) is a small public agency organized under the Health and Safety Code of the State of California. As a California Special District, CVSan has responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system within the unincorporated community of Castro Valley. The District also is in charge of the administration of a refuse collection franchise, the District's 25% interest in a wastewater treatment facility, implementation, and administration of state and local mandated recycling programs, as well as District participation in sub-regional wastewater discharge and solid/hazardous waste management agencies.

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience in wastewater or storm sewer line cleaning and maintenance.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Must possess and keep current, or obtain, during the probationary period, a valid California Class B driver’s license with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsements and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must obtain a Grade I level Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by the California Water Environment Associate (CWEA) in a time period specified by CVSan.
  • Must possess or obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid certificates within a time period specified by CVSan.
  • Attend confined space entry training in a time period specified by CVSan.

Appraisal Process - (Pass/Fail) After the closing deadlines, applications will be screened in relation to the criteria indicated in this announcement.

Minimum Qualification Assessment - (Pass/Fail) All completed applications and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed and assessed for each applicant's ability to meet the minimum work experience, training, and education qualifications.

Online Skills Assessment - (Pass/Fail) An Online Skills Assessment may be used to evaluate candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. The Online Skills Assessment will be conducted via a video conference platform and is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 29, 2024. Candidates who pass the Online Skills Assessment will be invited to participate in the next step of the Selection Process.

Remote Screen Interview - (100%) Candidates who pass the Minimum Qualification assessment may be invited to a remote screen interview to evaluate training, experience, and other job-related qualifications for the position. Remote screen interviews are conducted via a video conference platform and are tentatively scheduled for the week of August 5, 2024.

Successful candidates will be submitted to the Castro Valley Sanitary District for further consideration. Onsite first-round interviews are tentatively scheduled for August 12, 2024. Second-round interviews are tentatively scheduled for August 20, 2024.
