ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL LEDGER

Department: Finance

Pay Grade: 114

FLSA Status: Exempt

Personnel Status: Regular Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing financial accounting duties in support of the City’s general ledger. This position reports to the Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Reviews all requisitions and procurement card transactions for correct accounting treatment for the City and Water Board.
  • Performs various accounting and financial transaction duties.
  • Provides support for other department functions.
  • Assists with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as prescribed by GASB and FASB.
  • Knowledge of auditing principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of banking procedures related to bank accounts management.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in applying analytical methods and in organizing significant quantities of detailed financial and finance-related information.
  • Skill in the interpretation of various types of financial data.
  • Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Skill in the use of small office equipment, including calculators, copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary work, which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is typically performed while sitting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in an office environment.
