Description

The Warrant Research Specialist performs a variety of secretarial, administrative and technical duties for the Sheriff's Department Warrant section. Work involves entering new warrants and civil papers into the computer system; updating status of warrants when subject is in custody or warrants have been served. Employee is also responsible for screening and independently handling a variety of inquiries, and answering telephones.

Examples of Duties

Researches a variety of information related to warrants, criminal backgrounds, and other information needed to track issued warrants and the criminals involved.
Enters new warrants and civil papers in the Sheriff's computer system; updates status of warrants when subject is in custody or warrant has been served; distributes information to proper authorities or personnel as necessary.
Answers radio calls and assists with gathering needed information; relays information back.
Performs TCIC and NCIC entries and lookups as needed.
Answers phone and handles inquiries from the general public.
Obtains driver's license photos and distributes to necessary employee or authority.
Files and records information as necessary; maintains files as changes are processed.
Sends teletype requests to other law enforcement agencies to confirm warrants which we hold; requests that they attempt to apprehend a wanted person living or working in their area.
Responds to Hit Confirmation Requests from other agencies to confirm active warrants.
Responds to radio traffic with warrants for deputies; this includes verifying status of warrants, running license plates and driver's licenses check.
Verifies regularly that our hold is still in place for subject and notifies transport when surrounding counties have subjects to pick up and bring to Denton County.
Schedules warrant deputy to transport subjects from other agencies.
Creates packets of information on each wanted person for the deputy assigned to each case; packets include researched information regarding alias names, home address, and past criminal history.
Prepares and re-enters misdemeanor warrants that have been purged from the statewide criminal information database.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and a minimum one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must be able to be certified as a TLETS Operator.
Possession of a valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.

Ability to be certified within one (1) year of employment as a County jailer by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
