This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, with the intermediate starting salary of $49,984.08, and a senior starting salary of $53,982.96. This position is eligible for a temporary emergency operations adjustment of $3 to $6 per hour, depending on the area of operation, when handling winter/emergency operations activities. - Operates under-bridge inspection and related equipment to visually examine bridges for cracks, fractures, and deterioration.
- Assists in preparing reports and other documentation related to general and in-depth bridge inspection.
- Sets up traffic control devices such as signs, flags, cones, and arrow boards; performs flagging responsibilities for traffic through work zones.
- Conducts equipment safety checks; performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including monitoring fluids, greasing and oiling parts, cleaning, and making minor repairs.
- Operates vehicles to transport crew, equipment, and materials to job site.
Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restrictions and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non-Excepted [NI]).
- Employee will be required to pass a cardiopulmonary function test yearly, attend training on the use of respirators, and pass a respirator fit test every six months.
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions: - Requires continuous, overnight, statewide travel.
- Requires significant physical stamina and endurance.
- Requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
- May require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
