At the Wake County Information Technology Department, we provide information technology services to the organization and strive to provide customer services that are easy, enjoyable, and exceed expectations.

As the Desktop Support Technician you will support and maintain the Wake County desktop computing environment at Wake County facilities. This includes but is not limited to Wake County Regional Centers, Satellite Offices, and other Ancillary Sites. This position will be provided a Wake County vehicle due to the travel between sites. Technicians report to an IT Supervisor and are essential members on various IT related projects.

Desktop Support Technicians are a member of the Customer Services Team, which is the face of the Information Technology Department. Since they deal directly with end users they are expected to respond professionally, courteously and promptly in person, via email, via telephone or by other approved communication methods. Daily duties include installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading all County assigned computer hardware, software and various peripherals.

Note: A background check on all potential hires will be performed with an emphasis on driving record. A valid NC Driver’s License and safe driving record is required.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Two years of experience in information systems support
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Prior Helpdesk or Desktop Technician experience; Microsoft Office
  • Solid understanding of Windows desktop operating systems and software
  • Solid understanding of desktop computer hardware and peripherals
  • CompTIA A+ Certification preferred but not required
