Description:

The Airfield Technician is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the airport’s airfield. Maintain airfield compliance and requirements based on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's) and the Advisory Circulars, noting, and administering any changes to current regulations as well as maintaining strict standards already in place. Continuously monitor and maintain multiple aspects of the aircraft movement areas.

The ideal candidate is a reliable, self-starter with natural mechanical aptitude eager to master the role of Airfield Technician and learn operations duties for shift coverage to ensure safe airport operations. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate and learn from a team of professionals, and show-case strong problem-solving aptitude while working independently. This is a unique opportunity to support the Rocky Mountain Metro Airport team, complete ARFF firefighter training, while building relationships with the airport community.

Schedule : This position operates on a four-day work week (Wednesday - Saturday) on site with the shift starting at 9pm - 7am.

Anticipated Hire Range: $25.00 - $27.00 USD Hourly

Total Base Pay Range: 22.94 - 28.68 - 34.41 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:
  • Monitor and maintain aspects of the aircraft movement areas including hard surface condition, turf condition, painted markings, guidance signs and edge lights and their respective electrical systems, navigational aids, wildlife management, and grounds management.
  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work of airfield buildings, property, pavement, and lighting systems with focus on airfield movement areas.
  • Monitor the airfield condition for compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 139 Certification Requirements and Advisory Circular Guidelines.
  • Respond to aircraft emergencies as an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF) to protect the life and property as airport users. Maintain training to FAA standards.
  • Maintain and repair airport visual and navigational aids.
  • Work with team members on the maintenance of airfield electrical circuits.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment used in the maintenance of the airfield grounds and facilities.
  • Assume a lead role on annual airfield projects including crack seal, paint markings, herbicide, mowing, and other projects.
  • Apply, monitor, and record herbicides and pesticides.
  • Perform operations duties for shift coverage. Monitor, coordinate, and respond to calls from Air Traffic Control (ATC), tenants, and airport users to maintain safe operations. Issue Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) as needed.
  • Participate in mandatory snow removal operations with 12-hour shifts or until end of storm event. Operate multiple types of heavy snow removal equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :
  • High School Diploma or GED and
  • 1 or more years of related work experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Preferred Qualifications :
  • Airport Certified Employee (ACE)
  • American Association of Airport Executives Certified Member
  • 3 or more years of experience in airfield grounds work
  • Experience using Light and heavy equipment used in snow removal
  • Experience working with high-voltage lighting system (up to 5000 volts)
  • General knowledge of high-voltage electrical system operations and safety requirements
  • ACE Airfield Maintenance certification
  • Dependable team player
  • Strong sense of self-motivation and a personal commitment to high performance


Additional Information:
  • Requires a valid driver’s license on date of hire
  • Requires a valid Colorado driver's license within 90 days of date of hire
  • Requires a Fire Fighting Certificate (ARFF) within 12 months of date of hire
  • Herbicide/Pesticide License within 12 months of date of hire
