Job Description

Role

Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled building renovation and restoration, maintenance, and landscape grounds care and construction of moderate difficulty.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Performs general fieldwork of moderate difficulty in a variety of maintenance, building renovation and restoration, and grounds duties.
  • Performs equipment repair and roof repair.
  • Performs self-directed on routine tasks and is responsible for reports and recordkeeping.
  • Participates in training, research, and code compliance updates.
  • Participates training in areas of safety compliance and job-related skill building.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance, grounds, or construction.

Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

GROUNDS CREW:
Must possess a valid Arizona State Applicators license (Turf and Ornamental & Right of Way Categories) or obtain within one (1) year of hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Preventative maintenance procedures and general building repair work.
  • Tools, materials, and skills in use of tools and equipment common to building maintenance repair fields.
  • Maintenance, repair, and grounds duties.
  • Practices and procedures for irrigation sprinkler pipe repairs.
  • Procedures, materials, and operation of equipment used in maintenance work.
  • Occupational hazards and required preventative measures.

Skill in:
  • HVAC systems, low voltage alarms and fire systems, generators and small engine repair and operations, basic electric/electronic practices and procedures, plumbing systems, and roof maintenance and repairs.
  • Wall surface repairs, general floor covering installation; repair and maintenance of door locks and hardware; and in reconfiguring of office furniture.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Organization and adherence to detail.

Ability to:
  • Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
  • Operate small power-driven machinery.
  • Install, replace, and/or adjust filters, light bulbs, belts, or similar objects.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Perform manual labor.
  • Dig up ground using a pick, shovel, spade, or other tools and move debris as directed.
  • Prioritize given tasks.
  • Read blueprints and schematics.
  • Mix and work with cleaning fluids, chemicals, or similar solutions using personal protective equipment.
  • Work both independently and under close supervision.
  • Work in jail environment and around inmates in secured areas.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with various indoor and outdoor locations, in all weather conditions and includes exposure to loud noise, blood borne pathogens, dust, fumes, mist, and chemicals.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time; move, lift, push, pull a variety of heavy objects; mix and work with cleaning fluids, chemicals, or similar solutions using normal protective equipment; remain in a standing position for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
