The Department of Parks, After School, Recreation, and Community Services (PARCS) has exceptional career opportunities for our Office of Neighborhood Safety and Community Engagement Program. PARCS Area Community Coordinators are key players in ensuring PARCS meets and improves on its ongoing mission to enhance the quality of life for the community by providing safe, clean, accessible parks and community centers offering diverse programs and recreational activities and fostering meaningful community partnerships. The ONSCE program is dedicated to initiatives aimed at violence intervention and prevention. In collaboration with community-based organizations, this program focuses on serving underprivileged communities and individuals who have been or are at risk of being impacted by violence.

Under general supervision, the Community Coordinator performs public relations and community contact duties; coordinates special events; participates in outreach events to increase program participation and build community relations and partnerships, represents the program at meetings or events;conducts special studies and provides administrative assistance within a department /division setting. This position is fully grant funded through BSCC CalVIP Cohort 4, which requires the Community Coordinator to perform extensive data collection and maintain multiple tracking sheets for required reporting.

Candidates must have the ability to work flexible hours to accommodate engagement with community members and community-based organizations. Candidates will demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness, have experience working with specific populations, ability to work independently, and excel in building relationships and supporting community partners.

This is an unclassified position in which the incumbent serves at the will of the director.

The Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, political science, business administration, mass communications or related field; and two years of administrative support experience which emphasized public and community relations. Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
