TPWD MISSION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work and is responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment plant for Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site. Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations to include completion of required forms and reports as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). Performs water laboratory testing procedures and general maintenance and cleaning of water facilities. Assists with park swimming pool and water quality of that facility. Assists with park livestock and wildlife areas of the park. Performs all phases of maintenance and repairs to other park facilities, equipment, grounds, and electrical and plumbing systems utilizing equipment such as hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors, and other machinery. Responsible for purchasing supplies and materials, preparing reports, training and supervising park personnel, revenue collection and accounting, providing quality visitor services using automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks and interprets the parks natural and cultural resources. Required to respond to emergency situations as needed. Supports and complies with the agency's mission in all activities and supports park programs, outreach, and special events. Other duties include but are not limited to, volunteer program; recordkeeping; maintaining standard operating procedures for park equipment and vehicles; following safety program, park plans, and park fiscal control plan. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience :

Four years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure :

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license;

Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ);

Must possess or be able to obtain, within three years of employment, a class "C" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience :

Experience in facilities, grounds and vehicle repair;

Experience in customer service;

Experience in planning, developing and implementing interpretation/education programs;

Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteer groups.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks;

Knowledge of facility, equipment, and ground maintenance;

Knowledge of general custodial duties and general maintenance techniques;

Knowledge of resource management principles;

Knowledge of TCEQ regulations for public water and wastewater systems;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment;

Ability to operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment systems in accordance with TCEQ guidelines;

Ability to assist with park pool maintenance and operations;

Ability to assist with the care and maintenance of livestock and wildlife areas;

Ability to develop and implement maintenance and repair programs;

Ability to perform technical and complex maintenance related functions requiring lifting moderately heavy objects (tools, equipment, and materials);

Ability to coordinate projects and work schedules;

Ability to perform physical labor such as cleaning of buildings and lifting of objects such as bags of cement;

Ability to work as a member of a team;

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

Ability to apply pesticides and herbicides in a safe manner and in accordance with state regulations;

Ability to operate and drive large motorized equipment;

Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work in a public park;

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

Required to respond to emergency situations;

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

Required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 10% with occasional overnight stays;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
