The Wastewater Treatment Division employs about 800 people who plan, design, build, and operate treatment facilities. Our employees also enforce regulations to reduce harmful waste discharged to the system, and we educate the public and businesses on ways to protect water quality. About the Role:
The successful candidate will be a part of the Revenue and Accounts Receivable (RAR) Unit. The team oversees the billing and collecting capacity charge from all property owners in King County's service area. Taking care of our ratepayers is a big job. Turning wastewater into clean water is a complicated process, and very important to our ecosystem. Other services provided by RAR include a low-income payment program for Capacity Charge customers.

WTD protects water quality and public health in the central Puget Sound region by providing high-quality treatment to wastewater collected from local sewer agencies. To us, success means clean water. Our team is a unit within the Finance Division that works to ensure that clean water projects are funded.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Provide customer service to the public requesting information about capacity charges, accounts, and billings. Interpret established policies, procedures, codes, regulations, and other relevant sources to internal and external customers by telephone and in writing. Handle sensitive, confidential, and/or potentially volatile situations.
  • Administer billing activities: establish new accounts and billing cycles, print and distribute invoices, review, research, verify, and reconcile data discrepancies; process payments.
  • Process and document account adjustments and refund overpayments.
  • Process incoming and returned mail; process changes of ownership; make collection referrals, follow up on delinquent accounts.
  • Use database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications to develop and maintain reports, record-keeping systems, and correspondence. File reports and documents.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
  • Advanced experience in accounting or related fields working on Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system like Oracle; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to successfully communicate with a wide audience in varied communication settings.
  • Proficiency with using personal computers, with experience using Microsoft Office including SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to utilize LEAN or other process improvement tools.
  • Ability to manage time and adapt to changing priorities; work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products.
  • Able to learn quickly when facing new situations: open to change; thrive in an environment of shifting assignments and unfamiliar tasks.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.

It Would Be Great If You Also Bring:
  • Experience with Oracle or similar systems.
  • Experience dealing with customers by phone and email.
  • Experience working remotely.

Supplemental Information
Working Conditions
  • Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements typically once a month. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including parks and the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). This work arrangement promotes work-life balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work .
  • Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance of King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime-eligible
  • Union Representation: T his position is represented by King County Teamsters Local 117-P&T bargaining unit.
