Job Description

The Division or Finance and Administrative Services (DFAS) is seeking applications for two Senior Accounts Assistant to join our team in the Accounts Payable Unit, located in Cole County.

Job Location: This position will be located at the Knipp Building; 3418 Knipp Dr., Jefferson City, MO.

What you’ll do: This position is part of an investigative unit assigned to a statewide investigative program.

Perform professional accounting responsibilities related to the interpretation, processing, approval, and presentation of invoices for goods and services billed to the Department of Social Services; investigates discrepancies in the documentation provided; recommends and takes appropriate corrective action within established

Ensure proper coding is applied to payment documents. Coding is critical for proper department and state financial reporting and for claiming federal and other grant funds to support DSS programs.

Correspond with DSS staff regarding payment related issues, as well as educates staff on DSS financial policies, procedures, statutes, and

Review expense accounts in accordance with established DSS travel policy and procedures. Correspond with DSS staff regarding the documented errors to revise or correct expense accounts to be in compliance with state and department policy as necessary, as well as educate staff on DSS travel guidelines. Approve expense accounts in the SAMII financial system for payment.

Exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties; receives general administrative

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Data Entry of SAM II Payments.
  • Review and Approval of SAM II Payments entered by staff.
  • Reviewing and follow-up on Payment related Issues with DSS Staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

Ability to collect and analyze fiscal and statistical data and accurately prepare financial reports.

Ability to evaluate reporting trends and outliers, identify problems, and recommend appropriate action.

Ability to understand and apply state and federal policies, rules, and procedures of grant reporting and claiming.

Ability to organize information, manage time and effectively prioritize multiple deadlines.

Establish and maintain effective professional relationships across all agencies.

Skill in the use of personal computers, spreadsheets and word processing software and other state and federal reporting systems/programs.

Knowledge of accounting procedures and office methods and practices.

Ability to make mathematic calculations.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to review financial documents for accuracy with attention to details.

Ability to maintain automated and manual financial records.

Knowledge of basic research methods related to financial transactions.

Ability to identify and resolve transactional issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience and/or appropriate certification. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
