DEFINITION

Under direction, plans, leads, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for receiving, shipping, stocking and delivering goods and materials to District warehouse facilities; maintains files and records; and performs related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises technical and function direction over and provides training to less experienced staff. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the advanced-level classification in the Storekeeper series responsible for the performance of the most complex work assigned to the series. Incumbents regularly work on tasks which are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment. Positions in the classification rely on experience and judgment to perform assigned duties. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to complete assignments. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Plans and reviews the work of staff locating and preparing supplies, materials and/or equipment for delivery and issuance to authorized personnel; trains staff in work procedures; provides feedback to supervisory and management personnel on employee performance; acts as the Warehouse Supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Retrieves job orders; marks and prepares supplies, materials, and/or equipment for delivery; issues materials and equipment to authorized personnel; picks transfer tickets for store locations and prepares for transfer; delivers materials to appropriate locations within the warehouse and storage areas using a forklift or other materials transportation methods.
  • Receives, unpacks, counts, and inspects equipment and materials to ensure accurate quantity
  • of received materials; loads and unloads supplies and equipment from trucks; marks materials with stock numbers and places in proper storage areas; completes receiving reports for items delivered to the District utilizing established procedures.
  • Enters and retrieves a variety of information related to goods received into applicable database and/or spreadsheet; monitors and maintains information to ensure accuracy and integrity of data.
  • Prepares packages for shipping via multiple carriers.
  • Cleans, sweeps, and ensures the safety of the warehouse.
  • Establishes and maintains reports, records, databases, and files; ensures the proper documentation of operations and activities.
  • Observes and complies with all District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols, and ensures staff do the same.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to High School diploma.


  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible warehouse experience including operation of a forklift.


Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession, of, or successful acquisition within twelve (12) months of appointment, a valid Class B California Operators license , to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a valid Class A California Operators license, will also satisfy the licensing requirements of this position.
  • Possession of a valid Forklift operator certification, to be maintained throughout employment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.

  • Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.
  • The structure and content of the English language to effectively perform the work.
  • Operational characteristics, and the safe and proper use of, machinery, tools, equipment, and materials necessary to perform assigned duties.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration and Other Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess mobility to work in a warehouse setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.

When assigned to a warehouse environment, must possess mobility to work in the warehouse; possess the strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various District sites; and vision to inspect and operate equipment. Finger dexterity is needed to operate tools and equipment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.

Environmental CONDITIONS

Employees work in a warehouse facility and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, chemicals, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust and air contaminants. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

In accordance with California Government Code Section 3100, District employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to protect the health, safety, lives, and property of the people of the State. Employees may be required to utilize any special training, certifications and/or licensures which are needed to assist in the disaster, but will not be required to perform any duty or function in which they have no knowledge or have not received adequate training to complete.

WORKING CONDITIONS

District employees are expected to work overtime, weekends, evenings and holidays as required to accommodate the District needs, in addition to responding as a Disaster Services Emergency Worker. Employees in this classification are subject to on-call, which may include rotating-duty schedule, weekends and 24-hour emergency call out with little or no notice.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT NON RESPIRATOR

If required, employees in this classification must wear and use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and be able to perform work while wearing PPE.
