Public Service Intern - Reno Police Department (Part-time Temporary) - THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM 17.5 HOURS PER WEEK NOT TO EXCEED 233 HOURS PER QUARTER (temporary position without benefits).

Under general direction, in partnership with law enforcement Officers, perform data and

informational analysis on current crime trends, historical high crime areas, preparation of
informational reports, and related work as required. Work assignments and responsibilities will vary depending on where a person is assigned.

Examples of Essential Functions

The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the
listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Review existing criminal reports to identify and track emerging trends.
Liaise with Crime Analysis Unit employees to identify high crime areas and associated crime reports and calls for service.
Work within small groups and existing committees in relation to crime reduction strategies and grant funded initiatives.
Assist Community Action Officers in preparing reports for community stakeholders and City
leadership.
Assist in Court Liaison duties (answering phones, processing Officer’s subpoenas, etc.)
Assist in processing mail-in/telephone requests.
Assist in scanning paperwork.
Assist in pulling and printing microfiche/microfilm cases.
Assist in redaction of major crime cases.
Assist in public records requests.
Maintain relations with community stakeholders, housing managers, and neighborhood groups.
Compile statistical data for inclusion in presentations for Police leadership.
Must have the ability to work independently under general supervision, performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have the equivalent to a high school diploma; be at least 18
years of age; and have proficiency in computer usage to include Microsoft Word or Google
Drive applications.

Knowledge of and Ability to: Basic computer applications such as word processing spreadsheets, and databases.
Type and enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance and workload.
Compile data and participate in the preparation of clear and concise reports/documents.
Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding critical and sensitive information, records, and reports.

Supplemental Information

This is a highly confidential position and a background investigation will be required.

The position allows for no more than 17.5 hours per week with no minimum hour guarantee and is exempt from the Civil Service System as a temporary assignment. The pay starts at $15.00 per hour. There are no benefits provided with this position.
