Job Description

Full-time position available with the Health Department, Aim 4 Peace Division and two full-time positions available with the Environmental Health Science Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Aim 4 Peace Division: Non-traditional work days and hours, shifts vary, Environmental Health Science Division: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Aim 4 Peace Division:
  • Develops credibility with individuals at risk and high risk within the community.
  • Understands event dynamics leading to violence involving individuals that have been injured by violence and identifies different approaches for resolving issues in an effective way to prevent violent injury.
  • Hospital Responders use health education intervention approaches in order to reach a successful community health outcome with populations at-risk for violence based on knowledge of community history and dynamics.
  • Meets regularly with survivors and patients that have been injured by violence to address issues and support recovery and assists in efforts to prevent the spread of violence.
  • Responds to hospital Emergency Department calls related to patients injured by violence.
  • Communicates with patient's family members and other visitors to diffuse further violence and provide wrap around case management and/or services as needed.
  • Collaborates with Aim4Peace staff to formulate action plans and strategies to help prevent the spread of violence.
  • Develops relationships to identify participant issues and support a strong partnership.
  • Collects and maintains documentation of all contacts and progress with participants, patients, and visitors.
  • Distributes public education material to targeted audience.
  • Maintains and monitors case data on program participants.
  • Attends trainings and presentations as required.
  • Provides resources or referrals from case plans where applicable.
  • Notifies Program management of ongoing issues or items of concern.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Environmental Health Science Division:
  • Conducts routine, follow-up, emergency response, complaint, and temporary event inspections on approximately 3,600 food establishments, mobile units, and push carts, 600 pools, 115 lodging establishments, and 419 childcare facilities.
  • Administers the City's noise and smoking ordinance.
  • Assists in educating the public-on-public health laws and regulations including teaching pool operator training classes and food handler training classes.
  • Reviews plan submittals for new/existing facilities to ensure each establishment is in compliance with local health regulations/codes and other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
