Infant mortality rate in Wake County is 4.7 per 1000 live births. The disparity among minorities is much higher, with the infant mortality rate of African-American women at 9.7 and 5.2 for Hispanic women. The teen pregnancy rate is 20% with repeat pregnancy rate in this age group at 22%. The Wake County Human Service’s Prenatal Clinic located at the Sunnybrook Building offers basic ultrasounds in addition to low-risk prenatal visits, referrals to the High Risk OB clinic and has implemented expedited partner treatment for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s). This initiative serves to protect women from reinfection of STD’s, a leading cause of pre-term delivery and infant morbidity. The Prenatal Clinic is staffed with one physician and 7 physician extenders, 4 enhanced role Registered Nurses (RN’s) and a variety of support staff. Clinic hours of operation are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:00 am to 5:30 pm on Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Clinic Nurse include:
  • Providing medical support to medical providers as part of care team in clinical setting providing low risk prenatal care including obtaining histories, review of systems and labs per protocols
  • Administer medications/vaccines to patients using state vaccine guidelines and under direction of MD
  • Documenting in NCIR and in the County’s EMR system
  • Provide support to MDs performing medical procedures, i.e. NST’s specimen collections, Fetal heart tones, ultrasounds, etc.
  • Provide triage to the Care Team or other patients
  • Provide additional support as indicated: medical equipment teaching, anticipatory guidance to patients, referral information, appointments and paperwork
  • Assist with prep duties as needed - anthropometrics, BPs, labs, temperatures, lab requests, etc.
  • Review lab work and arrange for testing per protocols
  • Function as part of a team to achieve goals
  • Participate in clinic and agency activities that promote health and preparedness

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
  • No specific experience required
  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse as issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:15a-5:15p with an expectation to work one even clinic per week until 7:15pm to make 40 hrs

Hiring Range: 28.35-38.27

Market Range: 28.35 - 48.20
