What You'll Be Doing

Wake County General Services is looking for a Facilities Systems Engineer to join the Safety and Security Division. This position will be largely responsible for maintaining and programming the Corporate and Detention electronic security systems. These systems will include the AMAG access control, Salient video management, Digital Monitoring Products intrusion detection, Zenitel intercom, Traka key management, Omron programmable logic controller and Wonderware touch screen systems. Additional duties will be assisting with programming and troubleshooting support for the ViaPath/Renovo video visitation systems as well as assisting with the management of the current electronic security maintenance contracts and small-scale security projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gain understanding of the electronic security system and the end users’ operational practices to provide reactive and proactive support
  • Maintain and develop application configurations specific to Wake County’s functional requirements, research and enact system enhancements, monitor system performance and activity and troubleshoot hardware and software problems
  • Monitor and ensure scheduled events in controlled systems are functioning as designed
  • Restore systems and databases from backups when failures occur
  • Analyze, document and manage firmware and software updates associated with the electronic security systems and its components such as end of line devices, field panels, cameras, intercoms, key boxes, servers and work stations
  • Proactively plan, test and implement software and hardware upgrades and version updates to the electronic security systems
  • Develop and provide reports to users on regular and ad hoc basis
  • Work with vendors in programming and troubleshooting new installations
  • Serve as liaison between vendors, departments, teams and users to allow timely and efficient project conclusion
  • Assist with the management of the corporate and detention electronic security maintenance contracts (includes generating work orders, prioritizing work order assignments, running reports for identification of aging work orders and adding or removing items from the electronic security inventory)
  • Design, manage and commission small scale electronic security projects
  • Assist the electronic security maintenance provider with high-level troubleshooting of the Detention programmable logic controller (PLC and touch screen systems)
  • When available, assist with programming and troubleshooting support for the Detention video visitation system

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology and Facility Management or related field
  • Three years of job related experience
  • A valid driver's license and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Five Years of experience in the Security Industry
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Five years of experience with Security Management Systems and Video Management Systems

  • Experience with Electronic Security Systems and Access Control
  • Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures
