POSITION SUMMARY:

This is work leading to the acquisition of journeyman skills in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground power lines. Increasing levels of knowledge and experience are to be demonstrated by test results and working knowledge to obtain II-year, III-year and IV-year Apprentice classifications.

POSITION REPORTS TO: Line Superintendent; Accepts direction from journeymen positions.

DIRECT REPORTS ASSIGNED: No supervision is exercised.

JOB LOCATION: 50629 Hwy 6 & 24, Glenwood Springs, CO

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the performance of a variety of functions related to the construction and maintenance of an electrical distribution system. As the Apprentice Lineman is a progression towards Journeyman status, the tasks, knowledge, difficulty, and responsibility will increase as the training period progresses. Climb poles, work at moderate heights, work on energized lines, all methods of line construction (underground and overhead power lines), street lightingTrim treesMaterial stockingEquipment operationRead meters; map and staking sheet reading;Complete inventory and material sheetsProper safety precautions, skill and care of both tools and equipment. Effectively and courteously work with the general public.Work in inclement weather conditions and on-call with a journeyman for after hour call-outs.

  • Must demonstrate improving skills and understanding in the construction of electric line. Progress through the various classes will depend on the individual learning, test scores, and demonstration of these skills. EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS

Necessary:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have or be able to acquire a CDL license with air brakes and tanker endorsement within (6) six months of employment.
  • Must live within 50 miles from the intersection of Grand Avenue and 8 th Street. Total travel time cannot exceed 60 minutes at posted driving speeds.

Desired:
  • Course work in the principles of electricity and/or Line school experience is very desirable.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a position having acquired a State Certification in lineman skills in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground power lines. May instruct or give direction to apprentice lineman. This work involves responsibility for the performance of skilled tasks in accordance with industry practices and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to read and follow written and oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, and staking sheets.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS

Necessary:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an apprentice training program or equivalent.
  • Must be State Certified Journeyman or equivalent.
  • Must have or be able to acquire a CDL license with air brakes and tanker endorsement within (6) six months of employment.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience at the Apprentice level is required
  • Must live within 50 miles from the intersection of Grand Avenue and 8 th Street. Total travel time cannot exceed 60 minutes at posted driving speeds. Must be available for on-call and after hours call-outs.

Desired:
  • Courses in safety, training, supervision, gloving, hot stick methods and electrical theory.
