ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, you'll manage, maintain, and troubleshoot the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and software applications. You'll ensure the security and integrity of the systems, implementing necessary updates and patches to protect against cyber threats. Collaborating with other IT professionals, you'll develop and implement IT policies and procedures to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. Additionally, you'll provide technical support to end-users, addressing their IT-related issues and concerns promptly and effectively.

As the System Administrator, you will:
  • Regularly monitor and update servers, networks, and other IT systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure the integrity and availability of data during system failures or disasters.

  • Create and maintain documentation of IT systems, including network diagrams, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures, to facilitate knowledge sharing and support future maintenance efforts.
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including Windows firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems, to protect the organization's IT infrastructure from cyber threats.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, resolving technical problems, and assisting with system upgrades and installations.· Develop standards, data definitions, documentation, and designs of security protocols for vulnerable or sensitive data.
  • Develops, installs, and maintains a comprehensive backup protocol for all electronic data.
  • Provides technical software and hardware support to the City’s employees and guides end-users in using new technologies.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with vendors for software support and problem resolution.
  • Functions as project lead, coordinating the technical implementation of assigned projects and developing and administrating end-user training.
  • Manage creating user accounts for new employees and contractors and disabling or deleting accounts for departing personnel, ensuring timely access provisioning and de-provisioning to maintain security and compliance.
  • Administer user access permissions in various software applications, including ERP systems, Avaya VOIP, Office 365, and other business-critical platforms, ensuring appropriate access levels based on job roles and responsibilities while adhering to the principle of least privilege.
  • Provide training and support to users on effectively utilizing software applications, including guiding them on access procedures, permissions management, and best practices for data security and privacy, fostering a culture of IT proficiency and compliance across the organization.
  • Conduct regular audits of user accounts and access permissions to ensure compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and data privacy laws, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or unauthorized access attempts to maintain the integrity and security of sensitive information.


IDEAL CANDIDATE

Possess knowledge of:
  • Proficiency in administering various operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux, Unix, and possibly macOS, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), network architecture, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and experience in network troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or KVM, including virtual machine management, resource allocation, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN (Storage Area Network), NAS (Network Attached Storage), RAID configurations, and experience with storage management, backup, and recovery solutions.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, security protocols, encryption methods, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), antivirus software, and experience in implementing security measures to protect against cyber threats.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate routine tasks, system administration tasks, and streamline processes.
  • Knowledge of backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and experience with backup software solutions to ensure data integrity, availability, and business continuity in case of system failures or disasters.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and management tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds for system performance monitoring, log analysis, and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of database management systems (e.g., MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle), including installation, configuration, and basic administration tasks.
  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts, experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and familiarity with cloud services such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
  • Knowledge of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) best practices for IT service management, including incident management, change management, and service desk operations.
  • Understanding of server hardware components, configurations, and troubleshooting techniques, including experience with server provisioning, hardware upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, network diagrams, troubleshooting procedures, and user guides to facilitate knowledge sharing and support future maintenance efforts.
  • Has the ability to:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED:
  • Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis.
  • A valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment.
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field AND
  • Three 3 to 5 years of experience in information technology, WAN/LAN multiple server systems administration, information processing, telecommunications, and troubleshooting Internet issues, including extensive experience dealing with intranet/extranet firewall and anti-virus security issues and applying advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems with responsibility in technical software and hardware systems management, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful job performance.
    LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS: must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Required to obtain ACJIS Network Terminal Operator within 6 months of hire.
  • Possess active CompTIA Network+ AND CompTIA Server+ or are required to obtain both certifications within six (6) months of hire or equivalent vendor-specific networking and server maintenance certifications.
