Description:

AFamily Search and EngagementWorker’sprimary function is to identify and engage viable relatives and/or psychological kin that can potentially provide placement and/or support for children and youth that have been or are at risk of being removed from the care of their parent(s)/guardian(s). The FSE worker is responsible for locating missing parents/guardians, locating knownrelatives,and identifying potential placement options and supports. The FSE worker will partner with caseworkers, kinship navigators, family members, and collaterals to ensure that identifiedkin and relatives are included in the network of supports for children/youth currently being served by child welfare.

Our priority in engaging, partnering, and placing with biological or psychological kin is embedded within our Partnering for Safety practice model. This position is expected to champion the philosophy that every child has a family, and every child needs permanent connections. This position is responsible for ensuring that the Family Search and Engagement policy and procedure is followed.

Schedule:

This position operates during our five-day work week (Monday-Friday) but there is flexibility with this schedule. This position has the ability to operate in a hybrid function with remote work and in-office work as needed.

Anticipated Hire Range: $24.00 - $26.00 USD Hourly

Total Base Pay Range: 20.80 - 26.00 - 31.20 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties:

The Family Search and Engagement Worker is responsible for managing FSE referrals which may be submitted on any child and youth that is involved with the Division.The FSE worker will:
  • Utilize Accurint, Facebook, Google, Obituaries, Trails, File Mining, COVIS,Spokeo, etc. to locate family members, family friends, and/or current or previous connections.
  • Initiate contact via telephone, text message, email, mail, and social media with family friends, and/or current or previous connections regarding the child/youth.
  • Meet face to face with children/youth, parents and families to explore potential family members, family friends, and/or current or previous connections.
  • Participate in Team Decision Making Meetings, Family Engagement Meetings and Permanency Roundtable Meetings to explore family connections that could provide placement and/or support for a child/youth.
  • Document all contacts in Trails and create/update genograms in CAT.
  • Complete Diligent Search letters when necessary for absent Parent(s) and Relative/Kin/Finalized Adoption Affidavits.
  • Meet with different teams throughout the agency to ensure Internal Staff have a clear understanding of how the FSE worker can help find connections for children and youth.
  • Responsible for capturing and providing data regarding the effectiveness of the family search and engagement process. Clear understanding of the policies and procedures outlined inCode of Colorado Regulations(Volume 7; Child Welfare).
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :
  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the human behavioral science fields or a related field.


*In order tomeet theminimum educational requirementsof a human behavioral science degree, the applicantmust have a degree with major coursework(equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) in either development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures or therapeutic techniques such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling and child development.*

  • Familiar with social media platforms and able to navigate or utilize content.


Knowledge, skills, and attributes that are beneficial and lead to success include :
  • Strong rapport building skills and effective communication with varying individuals (youth, families, neighbors, community partners.etc)
  • Be diligent and creative with finding solutions for permanent placement.
  • Child protection experience and/or understanding of what it means for a child to experience removal from home.
  • Trauma Informed Care.
  • Comfortable with cold calling and researching connections via social media or other avenues.
  • Be diligent through investigating files to find connections.
  • BilingualSpanishabilities are a plus, but not required.
  • Passionate about agency's mission and vision.


Additional Information:
  • Offer of employment contingent on criminal history, state automated case management system check, MVR check, and education verification.
  • Must not have one of the following convictions: Child abuse, crime of violence, unlawful sexual behavior, or felony for domestic violence.
  • Must not have a felony involving physical assault, battery, or drug-related offense within the past five years.
  • Must not have a pattern of misdemeanor convictions within the past 10 years.
  • Must have valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must obtain a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date and you must not have any major violations, including DUI, DWI, and/or DWAIconviction(s) in the past three years.
