Full-time position available with the Neighborhoods & Community Services Department, Dangerous Buildings Division, located at 414 E 12th Street
Salary Range: $23.98-$36.60/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Responds with the Kansas City Fire Department to emergency situations to assess the extent of the fire damages on residential or commercial property.
  • Determines property status and orchestrates demolition procedures of dilapidated, structurally unsound, and fire damaged properties according to standards.
  • Inspects and makes assessments to determine the type of case (i.e. emergency/standard demolition or repair case).
  • Conducts extensive research for ownership and all interested parties to generate a title summary.
  • Continual contact with the owner through the progression of the dangerous buildings case.
  • Prepares demolition instructions for bidding of demolition jobs.
  • Conducts enforcement actions on non-compliant property owners.
  • Testifies in Housing Court, Circuit Court, and administrative hearings on City's behalf regarding Property Maintenance Code and Nuisance Code enforcement cases.
  • Comprehensive use of various computer programs is utilized.



Qualifications

REQUIRES high school graduation and 5 years' experience in planning/zoning, nuisance housing, building construction or inspection, health, safety codes and ordinance inspection or investigations: neighborhood/community assistance code enforcement, background investigations or criminal justice; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
