Job Description

Two full-time positions available with the Public Works Department, Public Inspections Division located at 4721 East Coal Mine Road
Salary Range: $5,173-$7,759/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. *Telework schedule available after 6-month probationary period complete

Responsibilities

  • Manages the planning, design, development, construction, renovation, maintenance, or operation of capital improvement projects with an emphasis on roadway projects.
  • Directly manages the cost, quality and timeliness of the construction projects assigned.
  • Performs construction contract administration duties required to ensure contracts are completed in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Possesses knowledge of construction contracts and their constituent components required.
  • Liaisons with design professionals, construction contractors, citizens, elected officials, other members of the Public Works project delivery/support teams.
  • Reviews developer plans/drawings.
  • Ensures quality of construction through direct field surveillance and management.
  • Develops 3-phase inspections, Preparatory/ Initial/ Follow-Up, and conducts site visits to identify deficiencies and provides recommended corrective action.
  • Performs quality assurance and quality control of contracts, construction plans, materials.
  • Prepares ordinances.
  • Maintains necessary records and prepares reports.
  • Exercises good judgment to resolve technical problems.
  • Performs related duties as required.



Qualifications

REQUIRES an ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in any professionally recognized architectural/engineering discipline as required by the hiring authority. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
