Description

Vacancy is in the Finance Department. This is responsible work in handling cash and in performing a variety of general clerical work. Work is performed in accordance with established and well-defined procedures, and most work decisions are of a routine nature. Public counter work, limited bookkeeping, and a relatively wide variety of general clerical work are performed in varying proportions, depending upon the time of year. Receives large sums of cash in payment of taxes, makes change, machine receipts bills, issues receipts, balances cash on hand against receipts, prepares deposits and makes the appropriate record entries. Posts daily payments against delinquent taxes and assists in sending out delinquent tax notices. P erforms a variety of clerical duties in connection with the acquisition of property by the City through foreclosure; with the sale of city owned property; the filing of liens of current real estate taxes; in listing the delinquent papers of personal property taxes; the preparation of authorizations for refund and a variety of other clerical tasks of comparable difficulty and responsibility. Performs related work as required.

This is a 1716 union position and the hours of work are 40 per week.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The examination will consist of a rating of your training and experience as contained on your application and may include a written test, an oral test, a performance test or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designed to measure the following:

Knowledge of:
  • General principles of bookkeeping and ability to keep simple cash accounts;
  • Some knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment with particular reference to matters of cash handling.

Ability to:
  • Make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately;
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.


Qualifications

Graduation from a standard high school and some experience as a teller or cashier.

Licenses; Certifications; Special Requirements

Employee of this class may be required to Secure a performance bond.

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
