Description

Vacancy is in the Licenses and Inspections Division of the Development Services Department. Posting will remain open until sufficient applications are received . Under general supervision, incumbent assists in examining building plans and permit applications. Examines plans and specifications of limited scope for compliance with state building codes and laws and local ordinances concerning the construction and renovations to all types of building in the City. Prepares written plan reviews when plans and specifications for permits do not comply with International Code Council (ICC) codes and local ordinances. Interprets state and local codes and ordinances, as well as regulations governing contractors, trades-people, property owners, and the general public. Provides information on codes, ordinances and other building regulatory requirements. Works in coordination with application intake specialists, planning and zoning team members, and other involved departments to ensure streamlined activities between divisions. Assists in maintaining division records. Performs related work as required.

This is a CHPEA UNION position. The hours of work for this position are 40 per week.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application. It may also include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure: Knowledge of municipal and state ordinances and laws relative to building construction and zoning regulations; Knowledge of engineering principles and practices; Knowledge of building and construction materials; Knowledge of the principles and practices and methods of building design; Ability to examine and approve building plans prepared by contractors and consultants, and to interpret zoning building laws and ordinances; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and the public.

Qualifications

Open to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:

Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D and must havethree (3) years of experience in building construction, part of which must have involved structure design.

A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.


NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possession and maintenance of a Plan Review Technician License, or an Assistant Building Official (ABO) License, or a Building Official (BO) License.


A COPY OF THE REQUIRED LICENSE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION.

HARTFORD RESIDENCY PREFERRED.
A completed City of Hartford Residency Affidavit including proof of residency as indicated on the Residency Affidavit may be submitted.

If selected for the position, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will be required to serve (3) three to (12) months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
