Working Title: Learning Center Instructional Support Assistant

Department Name: Toro Learning and Testing Center (TLTC)

Division: Academic Affairs

Successful candidates in these temporary appointments may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment. Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year, with the possibility of renewal if funds and/or program needs exist.

Classification Title: Instructional Support Assistant II

Classification Salary Range: $3,568 - $5,601 per month ($1,784 - 2,801 part-time)

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under general supervision of the Director of the Toro Learning and Testing Center and guidance of the Senior Coordinator, the incumbent will provide support services to a variety of upper and lower division science, technology, engineering, art, and/or mathematics courses (STEAM). The incumbent will provide materials, supplies, equipment and related logistical support; maintain equipment and supplies; and support faculty, faculty liaisons, and students.

The incumbent will be required to work the evening shift, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and schedule support to a variety of courses requiring a diversity of materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Support students with lab techniques and monitor the ongoing efforts or students as they apply the learned techniques.
  • Assist faculty liaisons with in-center instruction.
  • Support faculty with the use of equipment.
  • Setup laboratories and classrooms with required samples, materials and equipment and assist instructors in classroom laboratory as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing or storing materials, supplies, and equipment.
    or

    Equivalent to one year of experience in ordering, purchasing, accounting or in office work related to technical materials, supplies, or equipment or in an office which provided similar services to a technical function or unit may be substituted for six months of the experience.

    or

    Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline in the specialty area to which assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the procedures and practices relating to providing support services.
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices related to ordering, issue, and inventory.
  • Ability to learn quickly the names, uses and care of common types of materials, supplies, and equipment used in the instructional program to which assigned.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and follow a schedule of activities.
  • Ability to learn to operate equipment and to make adjustments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to support students with upper and lower division science, technology, engineering, art/humanities, and/or math courses.
  • Three years of related student support work experience.
  • Two years of postsecondary education at either a two or four-year college or a vocational preparation institution.
