Job Description

Role

Under general supervision, performs skilled work of considerable difficulty in electrical system layout, installation, and repair.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical installations and maintenance. Reads and interprets electrical schematic diagrams and design specifications.
  • Ensures code conformance and provides technical assistance and training to others.
  • Oversees material estimates, ordering of materials, and the keeping of accurate records.
  • Researches, designs, and estimates electrical job costs and inspects electrical systems for safety compliance and load balance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
A minimum of four (4) years of experience in electrical trades.

Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Other Skills

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical trade.
  • UBC and NEC Electrical Regulations.
  • Standards and regulations pertaining to the repair and replacement of electrical equipment.
  • Design and draft various electrical system layouts.
  • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Research techniques and report writing.
  • Current Microsoft Office software.
  • Filing and recordkeeping.

Skill in:
  • Low voltage alarms and systems; service entrance sections 208/230/277/480 volts; electric motors: AC/DC and VFD.
  • Bending and installing EMT rigid and PVC conduit to 2 ½-inch diameter.
  • Emergency backup generator maintenance and repairs.
  • Evaluating and troubleshooting electrical outages,
  • Maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repairs of electronic and automated control systems.
  • Work in jail environment and around inmates in secured areas.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Organization and adherence to detail.

Ability to:
  • Interpret electrical codes and schematics.
  • Read plans, schematics, specifications, and drawings.
  • Estimate labor or material costs from work plans.
  • Install, reconfigure, and repair a variety of interior and exterior light fixtures.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Work Environment:

The work environment is associated with various indoor and outdoor locations, in all weather conditions and includes exposure to loud noise, blood borne pathogens, dust, fumes, mist, and chemicals.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time; move, lift, push, pull a variety of heavy objects; mix and work with cleaning fluids, chemicals, or similar solutions using normal protective equipment; remain in a standing position for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
